Thanks pam thought i was going to have to start again, last year because we didn't manage to move in to this little cottage until 1st of april dug most of the back garden over (twice) because initially i just turned it in and was advised by several of you it would not work.
So did not get my garlic in until may 10th when the foliage died back at the end of august , i lifted them dried them and although they were a very flavour they tended to be a bit on the small side .
    Hence the early sowing

It won't be frost damage Micky, garlic is very hardy, as Pam says its best to plant in the autumn.

Hi Micky. A little something I heard was also to only use the outer cloves as these are the bigger ones and give bigger bulbs, so say. My garlic is looking ok but I used all of the cloves, inner and outer. It'll be interesting to see how they turn out. Cheers...freddy.

Hi NewbieGreen. I reckon it's way too late now. Better I think to make plans for starting some off in autumn. Many seem to source there garlic from the garlic farm (as did I) on the Isle Of Wight. Look here http://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk/ The bulbs seem of good quality as far as I can tell. Hope this helps. Cheers...freddy.

Brown tips on the leaves of plants is usually a sign of slight over-fertilization.
Perhaps the soil is a little rich for them?
As long as the whole leaves are not turning brown; I wouldn't worry too much and as older plants they will usually 'grow out of it'

It can also happen if the plants have dried out a bit too much as young plants.

Some of my garlic appear to have flower stems growing (I can't trace what variety I have got) - presumably I need to cut this out or can I leave the garlic to flower?

    Thanks,

Remove flowers, and mark them so that you use them first - they won't keep as well as the non-flowering ones.

So what happens if you do plant garlic in the spring instead?
