Following on from the success of the GC Meeting at Shiney's Open Day this thread is in order to canvass opinion on visiting East Ruston Old Vicarage (Norfolk coast "level with Norwich") and Will Giles garden (which is in Norwich - only open on Sundays, but I think he would open "for a group") and perhaps some nurseries in the area

    East Ruston Old Vicarage
Will Giles exotic town house garden

    Urban Jungle exotic plant nursery
    Amulree exotic plant nursery

In case helpful there are some pictures on my blog

    Will Giles and Urban Jungle

If in principle you would be interested please reply here and thus once we have an indication of numbers we could try for some mutually convenient dates :)

Suggestions of other venues in the area, if we are up to it!, would be welcome

There is another thread discussing a GC Meet in Gloucestershire for Hidcote Manor / Kiftsgate Court:

Good idea for a thread Kristen :)

I'm up for visiting these two gardens. I haven't any dates in mind yet, just wondering are these exotic gardens going to be at their best towards the end of the summer?

I'd love to get a second chance to meet you all! Weirdly, I do have to go to Norfolk some time this summer so maybe I could kill two birds with one stone.

I think that applies, but Will Giles garden is well established and probably gets under way earlier than the rest of us. He's on a South facing hillside so I'm guessing the cold air slides down, and he has a good angle for any Spring / Early Summer sun to warm the ground.

But I think July would be earliest, and August probably better. The only time I've been it was the last weekend of the season  so of course everything was at its maximum-est :)

There is also an Exotic Garden at East Ruston, albeit a very different concept.

I am always interested in taking part in GC meetings and I will keep monitoring them. Problem with me is that my 3 kids gets unwell in turns usually when there is a booked outing! somewhere, so it is kind of impossible for me at the moment to promise anything. Distance is not usually as much of an issue. So that's all what I can say so far!

I would be interested in the East Ruston/Will Giles trip, I fancy a weekend in Norfolk.

I think the time I visited before was probably August bank holiday and the Will Giles garden was looking fantastic. Being tropical, it takes most of the summer to really get going. I guess he has to start putting it to bed for the winter in early October.
