    Hello everyone,
This is my first post, would be very kind for everyones opinion!

I am a student studying product design in my final year. I am designing a water sprinkler with inbuilt timer to water the garden.

I would just like to ask when you water your garden, how long you usually water for and how often?

I have heard conflicting advice, some people say to water grass/plants in short frequent cycles and some advise long infrequent cycles.

    Appreciate the help!

    Jon23,

As for me I can only say it is dependent on the particular plants needs [IMG]

Grass is a difficult one. I don't water it often mostly because I forget [IMG]

Shade loving plants in the summer every 3-4 days

Sun loving plants in summer every day

    Baskets and pots every day

In winter I just shut my eyes and [IMG]

I'm a "give it a good soaking and leave it a week" person, by which time in this country its usually rained. [IMG]
Pots every day, perhaps twice a day in hot weather, the garden, a good soak once a week.

I follow Pete's regime. Though this year didn't have to water much at all apart from container plants due to wet summer
Seldom water lawns unless they are looking scorched -saves on mowing apart from anything else!

Don't have a lawn, and hardly ever water anything except new plantings (including veg and flower seedlings as well as newly-bought plants) immediately after planting and then daily for a couple of days usually - and things in pots and baskets and growbags, daily-ish.

I usually water in the evening, unless I find something that looks really poorly and needs rescuing!

Veggies are watered heavily and infrequently.

New plantings are watered as and when needed.

    Pots once a day.

    Lawns and established beds, never.
