I was both pleased and surprised to see the bit on the Gardeners World, I hadn't realized it was 20 years ago that Geoff passed away. Nice of Monty, taking a break from summer pruning his roses, to talk about Geoff. I used to watch Percy Thrower with my dad on black and white tele and I'm still watching the program now, but for me Geoff was the most informative. I like Monty and the others, but somehow they don't quite seem to be able to hold my attention like Geoff did.

Geoff was great! I loved the way he made something out of nothing.....well almost.

When the BBC covered Chelsea this year there was one programme that featured Barnsdale and Nick Hamilton, Geoffs son, who is carrying on Geoff's garden. He had a stand at Chelsea this year. For me that was the highlight. I didn't go to Chelsea this year, just meaning the TV coverage. He's one of my heros....though I quite like Monty too.

Not watched Gardeners World since Geoff passed. Those who followed him are a waste of space.

It was a bit of a shock to realise it's 20 years :yikes:

And that it's taken me that long to start watching GW again

I grew up with Jolly Geoff, he's been an inspiration to me.

          Long may he be remembered.....

I used to think that Dai, but I must admit I often watch it again these days.
Donty Mon, is not that bad.

It did go through a phase of colour co ordinated nonsense, but that appears to have been, almost, put to one side now.

There was an article in this weeks Amateur Gardening Magazine about Geoff's son replanting one of the main borders due to it becoming overgrown and too old. So he's, after some thought, replanted it as a Winter Border with various famous Gardeners and the AG contributing plants to honour Geoff and his ideas. He introduced Carol Klein into Gardeners World and thought a lot of her as a gardener, so she was invited to open the border when it was complete, and it was said that she was close to tears when opening the border.:snork:

20 years! Where on earth has it gone?!?

Geoff Hamilton, to me, will always be the gardener and gardening TV presenter that all others have to live up to. If I had half his skill and knowledge, I would be a happy man

Geoff was great. He had a real talent to connect and entertain in an informative way. His enthusiasm was infectious and was inspirational to me. We went to Barnsdale after his death and have to say it's a 'must see' garden. I have to admit at being choked in one section of the gardens where there was a bust of Geoff, quite emotional.
