I love white geraiums and last year I had some pure white plants from a supermarket. I liked them so much I decided to take 10 cuttings last September over winter them in my glass verander and plant them out this year. All 10 cuttings survived ok and I have planted them into my garden expecting them to be pure white as last year. They have flowered a very pale pink, can anyone explain this?

    Hi Welcome to the forum

Lots of white flowers start off pink then turn white I have this with a peony I grow.
I cant see the colour changing from last year to this being the same plant so somthing has changed , depends were you grew them last year full sun half shade windowsill all can have a effect on colour, ie full sun would soon take the pink colour out , have they only just floowered ?? this year ??

They came into flower at Easter in my veranda which only has the sun until miday, I planted them out 2nd week May in full sun,the new opening flowers are still the same pale pink. One thing though the compost I used for the cuttings I mixed in some red building sand to make it more atractive for the winter months, could this possibly be the cause ?

      Hi

The sand would help with drainage but it woudnt effect the colour I suspect as the seasson goes on they will go whiter, do they stay pink or eventualy turn white ??:dunno:

      Welcome from me to.

My new white Golden Torch Rhodendrum startted off pink but did end up white.

Not so sure about your geranium.

I would agree that light conditions can alter the colouring of pure white flowers . I have had white fuchsias that pink at certain times ..Unlikely that they will have changed colour by taking cuttings ..Let us know how they go after a fews weeks ..

Ah, one of the mysteries of life. I have an old Snowy Trail African Violet which is now pale pinkish [was pure white ], and one which is from a cutting from same, which is pure white. Aged parent says being in the sun can cause it, maybe.
