Giant Hogweed colony

    There is a fantastic colony of Giant Hogweeds by the River Lark in Suffolk! There are about 20 or 30 and they are massive :D

    To give an idea of size - this is my phone on a young leaf

    This bud is like a small cabbage!

    This is a flowerhead

    They towered above me
    [​IMG]

    Both Giant and ordinary Hogweed are coming in to flower now, so I suspect that anything similar with seeds already is going to be hemlock

    The pictures are brilliant..the hogweed is awesome it would be a nice desk top picture for the pc..its nice to see its still surviving..Their is a lot of flowers in the hogweeds family i have been looking in my wildflower book i see my sweet cicely is a relation also..

    Just a thought but how will they do in shade? I will try to get picture of one I have my eye on tonight, it looks very similar and growing under similar conditions.

    They do like damp ground and I have only ever seen them in sunshine. There were none growing in the shade at this site.

    were hogweeds used for anything? as in a usefull plant [​IMG] as everything serves a purpose its just working out what it was used for..i presume it may have been fed to hogs?? thats just a guess..

    Thanks - have some drying off already, just not sure about shade aspect, but I am going to pollard the willow so may not be too bad.

    waco..have you any spare seeds?? also photo bucket is allways telling me i have won something i dont click on the prize just in case :confused:

    no neither do I .
    I am sure there will be loads of seed, the flower head is HUGE!!!!

    I am going to dry them out, but If mother plant does it for me, I will get some more. will keep you updated, you are welcome to them.
