Just sown Johnson's exhibition and Kelsae seeds :)

Will give them bottom heat till germination then move them somewhere cooler.

I have quite a few kelsae seeds from the year before last, I will sow them and if they germinate I will prick out and grow till march if anyone wants a few I will share them out to keep a good strain growing.
Pictured are the last few I have left, two will go back in for next years seeds.
Most I grew this year were between four and a half and five pounds with a couple just over six pounds. (also a couple of runts) I do not have much of a garden now having moved to a small bungalow, I grew twenty four in a raised bed and twenty in 12" pots the largest onions came from the pots.
I will be growing 6 Kelsae and six Ailsae in quadgrows giving them exactly the same conditions compost, fert etc to see how they fare against each other.
                regards Sandy. DSC01009.JPG

Very tempted to grow Kelsae's again BUT not sure we'll be living here for much longer and I have my giant tomato to do!

Onion white rot in the garden don't help either!

"Rainbows and Unicorns", that's what my Anne always says about my Dad and I. You see she thinks we are two of lifes lucky people for example my Dad will book to fly on holiday, arrive at the airport and get upgraded to first class for some reason or other. She will probably say the same later when she finds out I have been given 20 Glazebrook strain onion plants!

Although I have been in this small village 12 years, I still know only a fraction of it's occupants, so I was surprised last Spring to see a huge onion in a pot all on it's own outside a neighbours house, he was growing it on for seed. The onion was the biggest I have ever seen in real life, well over 10lbs and this was around 100 yards from my front door! I knew Jacko on waving terms only.

Anyway, just before Christmas a polytunnel frame went up at the side of his house and this last two days a cover went on so I stopped for a quick Craic with Jacko. I told him how I could not get hold of Kelsae seeds this time round and I had even asked a fellow gardener here on GC if he had any as he offered me some seed in exchange for some seed potatoes I am sending him.

Anyway, an hour later and a knock at the door and I now have these 20 plants...I'm over the moon!

                    Steve...:)

I forgot to mention, Jacko grew to 14lbs last year and he grows in two 30ft tunnels away from this village with his friend who once was twelfth in the world rankings!
