Is it unusual to get such a large 'early' potato? This is the first year we have been here and planted potatoes. There were also several about half this size on just the one plant! We cooked half of this one for dinner yesterday and was a good serving for two.

I dug these Kestrels up four week ago and the largest was 12 ozs:

Might have a dig and see how the others are getting on, but I don'y expect to get anything around thye 2lb mark this year with the lack of rain here. The trouble with very large ones is that there's a good chance of them being hollow in the middle.

Had a look under under a couple of my Desiree plants this afternoon, and they're starting to go over the pound mark:

And Mrs Scrungee kept asking if she could eat it after I'd taken a pic - she loves microwaved jacket spuds. Better cart some more water to the veg plot.

We've had some good size ones so far this year too, suprising, given the mixed weather so far.

I grew a few Arran pilot this year jjordie.

Mine were mostly big as well, far too big really for earlies.

Didn't boil well either, just went to mush.

Large early potatoes seem to be the norm for this year then.

And Pete, yes they don't boil very well so I steam them and
keep checking to see they are not going mushy.:stirpot:

have you tried microwaving your potatoes ( chopped up smallish) in a casserole dish with the lid on and lots of butter, about 15minutes on low heat, turn them and 5 minutes on high heat. You will be surprised.
