I was given this as a bare rooted shrub so I potted it up to allow it to settle in. Good job I think because it's very vigorous!

I can't detect any scent but the local fly population can:D

It looks like a tree of heaven a bit-is it a kind of ailanthus? I don`t recognise it. But I have to say it is very beautiful. How vigorous are they-I have a good sized garden and might find myself on of those. Are the flowers frangrant? The insects appear to like it.

No Claire, none that I can smell anyway! There were shoots coming from the compost after only two weeks in the pot and the top growth is very fast too.

Def. looks like Ailanthus altissima. It is a fantastic tree or you can cut it back very hard every spring and get a plume of huge leaves very tropical looking.

It IS INVASIVE though, at least it is in Italy, it suckers and it selfseeds like a crazed rabbit.

If you are willing to keep it under control, it is a wonderful plant.

    Hi, Pal. :)

I would say the one on the right is a Crassula, the Jade or Money Plant. The left looks like it could be from the Maranta family,Calathea ornata perhaps.

The outdoor shrub looks like an Iochroma.

I reckon your right on the first two my lady but I don't think that's an iochroma the red iochroma has pale stems, that is probably a fuchsia it's very similar to fuchsia thalia.

I think the outdoor one is a Thalia Fuchsia, possibly " Garten meister ".:thumb:

I'm with David on the Fuchsia, looks the same as mine. The first plant in the first pic I am inclined to think it is a Stromanthe, just slightly different to a Calathea.:)

:( I'm upset - for the second time only, I could have given a clue to the second and third ones (only cos I had the first one id'd on here - don't tell anyone will you, pretend I just know;)).

I don't know the last one, but it's funny cos I admired this in my b-i-l's garden and thought it was a type of fuschia (what do I know:o) but my s-i-l said it was 'love lies bleeding'. Seeing yours I googled it cos it reminded me of it and I can now definately say that what they have is not 'love lies bleeding'. Not much help mate I know, sorry.

Let us know when you find out won't you, if not on here obviously.

    cheers
