If you have stems left from last year that have not flowered and still look good, should you leave them to see if you can get earlier flowers this year? I have several good stems left on mine which are being over-wintered in a frost free greenhouse. Thanks. GF.

Someone gave me one of these, unfortunately is is a variety that flowers in December and although the roots survive fine outside it never gets a chance to flower. I tried overwintering it in the greenhouse but it just sat there and still didn't flower. Probably not enough sunlight.
Apparently they are quite greedy and like moisture at the roots. Try kick-starting it in March/April time with high potash feed and see what happens.
I bet Bananaman could give you much better advice if he sees this.

Yes Waco as far as I know, they are.
gf, I dont think the overwintered stems will flower, but I've not tried myself as I usually have to cut mine back in order to get them in the greenhouse.
It might well be worth a try, probably only the strongest shoots stand a chance.

Yes, they are hedychiums. I love them. I would like to get them to flower earlier in the year if possible, as they always tend to flower well into Autumn. I will try and see what happens this year. Thanks for the advice. GF.

I just got all my hedichiums into lean to - I thought they did well in the house, but they just LOVE the new light they have been given, problem is they are taking up so much room that Mr Waco does not have room for his coffe table - HOW SAD!

Mine are in my un-heated greehouse (it is frost-free, 5 degrees is the lowest temperature)and it is bubble-wrapped. They're still looking good though. I've taken Pete's advice and just left the strongest stems.Wish me luck!
Surely Mr Waco could squeeze himself into a corner somewhere and enjoy them! GF.
