Ginger plants

    Hi guys can anyone tell me if ginger plants prefer sun or shade.Thank you very much....daz

    Depends somewhat on the type but most gingers like lots of sun, plenty of water and hate frost, although a snap light frost many will survive. Still probably safer to bring under cover in winter in the UK. Plant out south facing if possible. The old south facing wall trick is best.

    I am editing this just to say that I assume you mean the ginger lilies (hedychium). If you mean culinary ginger then you have no chance. It is totally tropical and likes a year round temperature of about 28c with loads of sun.

    Thank you sarraceniac im not sure what type it is as iv just been given it so ill post a pic tommorow if thats ok mate...daz
