I don't like spiders and cobwebs so if I didn't wear gloves I wouldn't go in the garden. Am I peculiar? I don't wear them when dealing with seeds 'cos I wouldn't have any seedlings left.

I don't like spiders either. But I do love getting my hands dirty after years of having them sterile. I'm slowly losing my dislike of spiders and bugs, now that the 'no gloves' (except when a cat has visited) has won. Yeah the Black Fingernail!

Always gloves, as i work with my hands in the soil for long periods it is the quickest way to get skin cracking and dermatitis not to mention the risk of thorns bits of glass etc.

Also when I want to stop for a drink I can take my gloves off and have clean hands. As for sowing obviusly no gloves although I raerly sow anything.

    I use showa grip gloves.

I always wear gloves with leather palms because my type of gardening is weeding, and pulling nettles and brambles out. I'm a physiotherapist so I need clean hands on a Monday morning rather than dirt engrained, rough and catching on patient's clothes:o:o:o

I've never worn gloves for gardening unless I'm cutting Lantanas or Bougainvilles back because they are lethal , worse than roses which I can manage. Must admit nettles are a bit of a nightmare and I put thin throw-away rubber gloves on under thin gardening gloves to rid myself of those and there is a creeping weed here with thorny crowns between the leaves that will shred you so I take caution there.

I think I have nice hands and long fingernails and gardening has never interferred. I also don't wear gloves for washing dishes (no, I don't have a dishwassher by choice) and the thought of wearing rubber gloves for that task mortifies me1

It depends on how my skin's doing. I suffer from chronic eczema, and usually have to wear vinyl gloves - but would far rather not! I find soil very drying. More often than not my nails are black, because the gloves 'go' first at the tips! They are filthy as I type, and that's WITH scrubbing and soaking!

Unless it's for thorny stuff, I certainly can't wear the thick gloves as it just doesn't feel right!

I wear surgical gloves, my wife brings them home from work when they are out of date. Feel and dexterity aren't impaired and I have clean hands...
