Hello chums. In a couple of weeks I'll be jetting off to the sun for a week :) Thing is, what do I do with the greenhouse ? Do I leave the door open ? As it stands I keep it heated at night but not sure what to do. Cheers...freddy.

Will the auto-vents, by themselves, keep it cool, or do you have to open the door?

If its door-open my preference would be to fit a louvre low down (usually at the back) which can be opened by an auto-vent thingie.

If we get a frosty night leaving the door open won't be good :(

But basically you will have to get used to only going away when the garden allows it in future!!

You're going to have to take those tomatoes with you freddy you can't risk leaving them on their own now they have flowers. You'll not be able to enjoy your holiday thinking about them if you leave them behind. :hehe:

Seriously, can't you find a friendly neighbour to open/close the greenhouse? Its really tricky at the moment getting the ventialtion right, it was down to about 4 deg C last night with us but soared to plus 30 dec C mid morning when the sun came out before the door got opened.

I'll look after them for you ... they are welcome in my Tomato Plant Kennel - but I have a minimum-look-after-time, for Tomato plants, of six months :hehe:

Freddy,I have a mesh door that I slot into place when I leave the g/house unattended,if you have no one who can do you the honours opening and shutting I would risk leaving the door open but with a mesh barrier to keep the temp. down on hot days and keep the vermin out, also have some shading up ,switch the heater off it's unlikely in a couple of weeks time for the temperature to drop that low,but you would only have to have one hot day and everything is cooked.

Freddy; what sort of max/min temps are you getting right now? And are you having to open the door during the day to keep the temp down?

Hi folks, thanks for all the replies, sorry I didn't get back sooner. Problem solved, my neighbour will open and close it for me. The watering is also sorted as I bought one of those kits with a timer and it seems to work ok :thumb:
