I've just got fairly close to a goldfinch who was singing his heart out in my garden. This may not seem like news to those you who live in leafy spots, but right here in the middle of the town it is fantastic! Makes a change from the sparrows and the dunnocks!

They are real beauties close up aren't they, We had three in our Bottlebrush yesterday but only stayed for less than a minute and then were gone.

Enjoy the sparrows and the dunnocks. They are beautiful little birds - if a bit pesky at times.
Look at the sparrows - they all have different markings on their faces - have you noticed ?

I love everything which comes into my garden, Alice - the town pigeons and their country cousins, the collared doves, and even a rather yobbish posse of starlings which does a very good job of clearing up any food debris which gets left on the street. A while ago I went outside to clear up the remains of a MacDonalds takeaway which had been chucked in the gutter, but the starlings had already picked the packaging clean, having worked their way through half a Big Mac and and large portion of fries. They have also become very good at imitating the sounds of the town - car alarms are a favourite. A few years ago one bird became an expert at mimicking our alarm clock. We were woken at dawn, without fail, every day!

In an urban area it seems a real privilege to have wildlife ... even if the fat woodpigeons are eating me out of house and birdseed!

We are lucky enough to have three goldfinches visiting the nijer seed feeder in our garden, put the feeder out 18 mths ago and had nothing other than rotting seed for about a year that changed about December time when two became regular visitors and now there are three. See them as early as 5 am and as late as 22 00. :) :thmb:

I`m with Alice and ClaraLou, love and appreciate everything that comes into the garden.
