Hello from not so sunny Northamptonshire (very cold in fact). I am after some advice (no I hear you say!). I moved into a brand new house just before Christmas and am wondering how to look after our new lawn. The grass is beginning to grow and I'm not sure when I should start cutting it (it was laid in the first week of December). The turfs still haven't bound together and I'm worried that my rather heavy petrol mower will make mincemeat of them. The turfs are also very damp and a little uneven.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi clueless and welcome to GC. No good my advising on lawns except I seem to remember that the first cut should be high. I'm a gravel lover, but if you hang on I'm sure someone will advise you later in the day. But once again, welcome. ;)

Hi Clueless, your not so clueless if you're asking the question BEFORE you cut the grass. Don't be too keen, if the grass gets too long it will only take a few cuts to get it looking good again. A few goings over with a light roller will help. Welcome to the forum.
