The Mini battery was flat as a fluke this morning. So I got my trusty battery charger out , connected it up , and switched it on . There was a little phut and a plume of white smoke came from it . Dead as a dodo ! I then reckoned up when I bought it , it was 49 years ago ! This was when car batteries seemed to go flat every other week , not every 5 years as now . So I think I have had my monies worth from this little device .:blue thumb:

I'd like to bet that it could be fixed - unlike the modern stuff. Probably just a diode or resistor that has gotten tired of life.

How are you with a soldering iron?

I didn't realise any one bothered charging car batteries these days.
The last one I replaced had been on the car for over six years, which to me is good enough.

You could ask your local museum if they would like your charger Harry.;)

The car accessory shop I bought it from is still open . When I find the receipt I'll be asking for a refund :snorky:
You need to charge them to get it off the drive ! I'm getting a new one tomorrow, this one is the BMW battery so is 10 years old.
Not too bad with a soldering iron FC , but these days I find a credit card easier

What is an Annual General Meeting type?

Dont think they charge my battery during a service, otherwise the cost would be there on the BILL.:)

Absorbed Glass Mat - its the type of battery used by cars with stop/start technology etc.

Oh right, I didn't know those stop start cars had different batteries.:blue thumb:
So how often do you have to service one of those types?
Assuming you need to get the battery charged from time to time.

They generally last for 6 to 10 years, so are quite reliable - they are more tolerant of charge/discharge cycling than a conventional lead/acid battery and there is no liquid to worry about either. No other servicing is required.

£100-£300 depending on the size for the battery, and about £20 and a bit of bending for a starting handle
