funny you should say that pal, we just got invited to Chrismas dinner on christmas day today - oh humbug - who mentioned Christmas!

Yes he may be daft roders, but he is not so agressive now and has lost his fetish for Martin.

Do you know how much a good sized goose costs? for dinner...I purchased one from our local butcher last Christmas I had promised the family one.
It cost me £50....mind you it was worth every penny it was delicious and enough fat to keep you going in roast potatos for months.

I agree with you roseitu, goose is a wonderful xmas bird - pricey though it is. It was our traditional one when I was young - and really can not enjoy turkey. That crispy skin, and dark meat is wonderful, especially with a bit of sage and onion stuffing, steaky bacon, and chipolatas.

There is an old Yorkshire saying about eating duck

"When thow ast duck there wants to be two on yee - thee an 't duck"

Well - trouble is with goose its much the same, when mum used to cook it for Christmas dinner she would also do a big piece of pork too (cooked in the goose fat) as there was never enough to go round.

    Can't believe its £50 for a bird though - what a thought!
