whilst browsing around my garden yesterday i spotted something on my gooseberry bush, it was 2 different grubs 1 was yellow and the other was striped,so i rushed to my garden supplies and sprayed it with wilkos general bug spray, they all fell off and wriggled a lot, and i cant see anymore, this is the gooseberries first year so it hasn`t fruited and i thought it would just get stronger for the future, but this has left nearly half the plants leaves skeletons will it be ok :(

It sounds like caterpillars Pam. the plant should be alright now that you`ve killed them. Just one thing though. Read the istructions on the pesticide you used, to make sure it`s suitable for use on edible plants.:thumb:

The usual culprit is the larvae of the goosberry sawfly. More than one species but usually greeen with black markiings. The eggs tend to be laid on the underside of the leaves well into the bush so spray or dust thoroughly. They have been know to completely strip a goosberry bush of foliage. I would certainly apply your insecticide more than once during the season - go by the manufactures instructions regarding strength.
