Is this bad? At first I thought it might just be a gooseberry thing as I've never grown them before but when they started going brown I started getting a tad worried.

It's still growing well with fresh growth however. It is currently in a pot in my coldframe.

    Ta!

Could it be down to temperature variations (in the way that tomato plants react to low overnight temperatures)?

Goosegogs are very hardy, so I doubt the temperature has done it. I think its more likely that they are starving, or in particular, missing some vital nutrient. I could be wrong though.

Thank you, I left them outside overnight twice in a row recently by mistake. I guess it must be that. Can I leave them outside in a few weeks time do you think?

I think the sly gits eat the leaves from the underside. If that's the case the birds will only see them once all the leaves are gone!

My old head gardener could never pronounce Polygonatum, always said Polyognums.
