Off to Exeter Uni tomorrow for our son's Graduation, it's been a long four years for him and a lot of hard work and still has another year of Teacher Training to do before he looks for a 'real job'.
We are expected to dress accordingly which for me is a real effort:D
and the weather forecast 'ain't none too good'.:(

Congrats to your son Strongy on his achievement...and fingers crossed he keeps at the teacher training. The profession needs more men going into it; too many are scared off by the absurd media stories of all sorts of accusations.

What level does he want to go into, or subject? It's a very underrated profession these days which is a shame. As the advert says "you always remember a good teacher". I still have fond memories of several from Grammar School, who instilled a love of Classics and Latin in me :)

Aaron - you very correct, it is an underrated profession these days.

Our 18 year old has just finished a two year pre-uni teaching course. Sadly her work placement during that two years has put her off :(

I do think it takes someone very special to do it. I remember some fantastic teachers from high school - two of whom I actually go out with socially now! ..... I do though remember some awful 'not interested/couldnt give a toss' teachers.

My husband was teaching at a local comp till this time last year, and in September, started at my son's grammar school. The profession is a totally different day to day job in each of the schools. One was more likened to crowd control/bouncer on most days, whereas at the Grammar, he can truly teach. Too bad that all placements cannot be in positive environments to show what CAN be achieved by a teacher.

Thanks folks, the day went well apart from the rain but that had stopped before the ceremony ended so had some pics in the sun.:)

Aaron, he want to teach Secondary and is quite positive in his outook regarding the schools.
The problem is that he started 4 years ago with Sanish and German and there was a shortage of Language teachers, now it appears that German is not a required language but French is so he will have to learn French quickly and feels the years of learning German were wasted (as far as a job goes).
There also seems to be a larger number of foreign native speaking teachers in schools now teaching their own language.
