I planted a few roses in a garden 3 years ago .... one is a David Austin Graham thomas climbing rose (yellow flowers)

popped around this afternoon for a quick chat as I have some extra work to do there ....

had a quick look at the garden, and saw that the david austin Graham Thomas rose has brown patches on the leaves ... the rose climber is in full sun, and has not had this since it was planted .... seems to be growing fine though

whats the best to treat it with?

I'm no expert Dim but it sounds like 'black spot'....i spray mine with Rose Clear then repeat 2wks later...you have to make sure you clear all fallen leaves whether they're infected or not as they harbour the spores....hope thats of some use to you:dbgrtmb:

thanks .... I am back there on tuesday, so will try that .... no leaves have fallen, but most leaves have the brown patches .... the climber is over 6 feet tall and approx 7 feet wide

If the brown patches are around the leaf edges, the most usual reason is excess fertilizer and the cure is to water it thoroughly to leach away the salts from the roots.

mowed a lawn today for another client ....

she has several mini roses bushes .... two of them have the exact same problem with browning on the leaves .... asked her if she added fertilizer, and she said she never ever fertililizes any of her plants

had a quick google and found this:

        http://www.rosebuddies.com/problem4.html

so it may be rust .... I hope not .... but looking at the pic in the link, the brown patches appear raised .... the leaves of the graham thomas and of the minature roses have the brown colouring, but the leaves are still smooth ....

I will take a photo on tuesday and email David Austin for advice

Could it be sun damage where the leaves have been wet?

        problem solved

worked there today and asked a few questions .... the lady sprayed provado ultimate bug killer on the leaves .... at 12 o'clock in the day .... in the full sun

lt will be fine though, as since my last visit a week or so ago, it has now formed loads of rose flowers (not open yet)

gave it a good watering today, and fed it some liquid seaweed as a soil drench ...
