Hi Just come back from holiday

yes had a great time thank you

What I didnt expect was to see blackbirds , when I 1st arrived just the normal sparrows which I fed, after I had my breakfast, every morning have a latte on the terrace (yes very nice:heehee:).

But later on in the week about 6 Blackbirds arrived and I just hadnt seen any before and I had been to most of the islands ie Lanzarote, Furtuventura etc .

Do you think they were introduced ?? or do they fly that far for the winter.
The island was full of swifts but no house martins or swallows yet .

I personally think they where introduced , as black birds are not great flyers .

I'm not sure whether the Blackbird is native to the Grand Canaria, it probably is but it is a little known fact that they sometimes migrate, Scandinavian Blackbirds do come to the UK in cold winters like Redwings and Fieldfares and some UK birds move to france in the winter so they can cover long distances.
Lemon Dove may be an escapee or introduced.
