I have a thin layer of wood chip mulch around my violas, can I just mix some granular fertiliser in with the wood chips?

Anybody know anything about this? don't fancy moving the wood chips and then putting them back.

@val , I have some plants surrounded by a slate mulch , I just riddle my slow release or BF and B into the stones and water in. As the plants are watered and rained on the fertilisers must permeate down into the soil and feed the plant .It won't be as quick as when the fertilisers are mixed into nice damp soil but I am sure it will be fine . Like you I have no intention of moving 2" of mulch to give em a feed !
