    Hi there
Having recently moved into a new property with a beautiful plum and grapevine, they are both sprouting absolutely everywhere - upwards and outwards and into the neighbours. Where there are small bunches of grapes formed and plums well on their way is it now okay to prune the "straggly" shoots just to tidy it up of course leaving all the ones with the grapes and plums??? :gnthb:

I know over here in Canada, we prune in the early Spring, however a friend has a plum tree and she does small pruning during the season, so i would think that it should be ok to prune the scraggly shoots, but check to see if any of them have any buds, if they do, prune just infront and leave the bud.....good luck.

Hi ya, Well with my plum I prune out the shoots I don't want when they are small around now & also remove some fruits If I feel there are too many to a branch.. That way I get nice sized ones..
With my grapevine it is a Merlot type I think.. This is what I do......:dh: Because of the way I train my vine on my shed I prune off allot of the spur branches as they are prolific on mine.. I prune to 1 bunch to a spur vine..
I have to keep the spurs short This way they are really good sized bunches & the grapes are nice & juicy.... Although I limit the bunches & spurs to stay short, I always have enough bunches for at least 1 Demijohn every year & this year it looks like it might be 2..!!! :yho:

:thumb: Hope that is of some help..
