    Hello

We have a very hard white fungus growing in our grass. It looks a little like a flower and comes out with a small fork. It's spreading slowly.

Any ideas what it might be ?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andy
They sound like earthstar fungi - check this link - do they look anythning like this?

    http://aolsearch.aol.co.uk/image_browse?query=earth%20star%20fungus&first=1&last=12&imgurl=http://www.arboretum.harvard.edu/library/tibet/images/fungus.jpg&refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww. arboretum.harvard.edu%2Flibrary%2Ftibet%2Fpages%2Ffungus.html&width=800&height=534&rank=1&encquery=earth+star+fungus
    (sorry for unfeasibly large link!!!)
Keep digging them up, though bear in mind that the fruiting body is only the tip of the iceberg - the largest part of it is the mycellium which is underground. Personally, I would enjoy them, but if you have a pristine lawn, you may want to take steps to get rid. - keep up good lawn hygiene, & keep picking them off so that the spore don't get a chance to spread. Could you post a pic?

Works for me Bayleaf, what an oddly shaped fungus. Darn certain I would not want that in my lawn - andy you got my sympathy.

I think my computers allergic to AOL [IMG]

I put the name into a search and seen the pics and yup its a weirdo.....looks like a rotten half peeled satsuma!

A tip if you ever need it.....sometimes if you have to post a large link or send it to someone in an email it gets broken and doesn't work......if you visit http://tinyurl.com (same co as the tinypic hosting site) and put the link in to the box at the site ...press the button and it transforms it into a tiny URL....sort of does what it says on the box [IMG]

    the link above becomes
    http://tinyurl.com/9nvbx
