are the manual grass trimmer (the type where you roll the blades by hand) any good for cutting? Do they work on short grass or also long?

I do not know much about them, but I would think they would only be good for short grass. Have you thought of looking at a Which Magazine, see if they have an details.?:dbgrtmb:

I used a hand mower for a few years , remember at one time there were only hand mowers !
The grass can't be too long and it must be dry , otherwise it skids . But they are good fun to use, hardwork though ! It is excellent excercise .
If it is only for a small grass area you can buy a small rotary (flymo type ) for around £40

Thank you for the answers. I have to replace the spool on my electric one but to tell you the truth I don't like to use it because of the noise and vibrations...
