I went to Great Dixter the other day for the second time it's a lovely place to visit the house which dates backto 1460, the gardens which are breathtaking and on top of all that it also has a nursery full of great plants. It was the lifelong home of the late, great Christopher Lloyd.:)

Would love to see that, I am a great fan of his books, even if I am still cursed with too much "appalling good taste" (as he himself wrote) to completely embrace his colour combinations. But he must have been a great gardener and a real plantman. Did you take pics?

Beautiful pics Nat. I too would love to see it. I have several of his books, and would love to have met him. I find one of his most useful books is 'Garden Flowers', which is effectively an encyclopedia of perennial plants.

What makes it so useful is that it doesn't waste time repeating whats in every other encyclopedia, ie pictures and facts, but it is full of his opinions saying 'this plant is rubbish, but that one is superb'. That's the info that is most difficult to find and most valueable.

I've never been there although it fairly local to me.

Its nice to see that his (Christopher Lloyd) tropical plants are still being planted.

Seem to remember he dug out a rose garden to plant them.:D

He did. Wish I could do the same here!!!:D
I discovered C.Lloyd when my mom gave me his tropical garden book (which she picked for the pics, since she does not read english). A very lucky present. The changefrom rose garden to tropical is really really really WOW! Now I have several of his books, including the Gardener Cook, that I enjoy very much.

That's really beautiful. Always regretted not going there when we lived in Essex.

Thanks for sharing it with us.
