I have just harvested green beans from my 6 plants. Some of them are really huge, and quite firm compared to the others (not harvested for a few days!). Am I able to take any of the beans/seeds out of the pods and use them as seeds for next year?

Is there a process to do that?

I'm not sure about French beans, (I'm sure someone else will know) but although I've never bothered, I remember my Dad used to wait until his runner beans had all but finished then allow the last few to get really big and a bit dried out on the plant (the 'pods' would start to get yellow and 'leathery') and these he'd save for seed.

I save some every year. As Fidgetsmum says - let them swell and dry on the plant.

Having filled both freezers & all my ice cream tubs with salted welsh & runner beans, im now leaving one set of beans to grow just the seed for drying. using the small wigwam for fresh ones. I hope to have enough dried beans for winter stews and save some for next years planting.

Snowbaby, have I mentioned growing seed sprouts on the kitchen window sill ? Or did I just dream that one?
