The very mild weather of the last couple of days has been an excellent opportunity to turn out the plants in my summerhouse and greenhouse, which are kept just frost free. I inspected every pot and removed all dead and dying leaves and stems. Some of them were covered in mould and clouds of spores arose. Obviously the mould could cause serious problems if left unchecked, however all was well, and it looks as if almost everything has survived. And I gave them a spray with Cheshunt compound (anti mould) for good luck. I then removed copious amounts of condensation from the summerhouse and greenhouse and left them open to dry out.

This shows some of the plants getting their first fresh air for some time.

Whilst I was doing this I noticed that quite a lot of plants already had new green shoots showing. It seems very early for this. We have had a bad autumn, but winter has hardly started yet. Some plants looked really happy, like this Echium pininana, which had a mass of fresh growth.

Hi Peter s. looking good. i was in the garden today, taking advantage of the mild weather before the gales which are forecasted for this area, and i was amazed at the number of plants which have withstood the horrendous weather we have had over the past 10 weeks. i have six hydrangea which are shooting and various other shrubs
which are shooting newlife :pickflower:. long may it continue ,it makes you feel a bit better and cheers you up .

Your plants are looking great PeterS.
I don't know how mine are looking.
They've been under a foot of snow since November although it's down to 6" now.
Where there is the odd bit of clear ground I can see the bulbs coming up - looking good.
The stuff in the cold frame and the potting shed - I'm fed up clearing a path to them to look.
It's thawing now and I hope to get out and have a look tomorrow.
Sorry to be so grumpy, but had enough of this winter :@

That's an excellent job you've done.

The plants in our garden seem to be ahead of normal

Alice, I hope the snow clears for you soon. :)
