Green tomato chutney

I have lots of tomatoes that came late and will not ripen in this weather (or some I'm told). I tried to make green tomato chutney earlier this year ( to a recipe from the newspaper). It was a total disaster. I would like to try again, as I think that some of these tomatoes have no hope of ripening indoors - does anybody have any tips please?

I made some green tomato chutney this morning....it looks revolting but actually tastes really good! Perhaps try a different recipe, there are lots out there. As Dai says, there are some ideas in the recipe section.

 

If the toms are a solid green, then they won't ripen off the plant. If they've got a hint of translucency then they could ripen if you put them with any other fruit in a paper bag,preferably other ripe toms or bananananas.

 

As Ziggy says put them in a bag with a Banana to ripen them.

 

Thank you! There are definitely some that are 100% green (not at all translucent) but I did not want all of the effort of the plant to be wasted so wanted to find a way to use everything. Will look in the recipe area and update on the progress :lollol:

 

I made some green tomato chutney last year- was deelish and I'll probably do the same this year, so many greenies.
