Green Tomato Chutney

    This is a very old recipe,long before food processor's etc.,i remember my Mum using a hand mincer.
    *****************************
    1.5kg. (3 lb) Green tomatoes
    1 kg. (2 lb) Cooking apples
    500g. (1 lb) Raisins
    750g. (1.5 lb) Onions
    500g. (1 lb)Sugar
    375ml. (3/4pt.) Vinegar
    1tbsp. Salt
    " Dried mustard powder
    " Pepper
    " Ground ginger
    ********************
    Put tomatoes,apples & onions through food processor (or finely chop),then put all ingredients into a large pan.Bring to the boil & simmer for roughly an hour & a half,allow to cool slightly then fill warmed jars.

    Gogs. So sorry, we seem to have been so tied up discussing the merits of Yorkshire pudding and onion marmalade that we are overlooking your recipe for green tomato chutney. My mum also made something like this but I had lost the original recipe.

    I think that the combination of modern tomatoes, which ripen far easier, and cheap pickles and chutneys at the super-market have stopped people bothering to make these excellent home made ones. Just too much trouble.

    But if they just tried I am sure that they would love them [​IMG] [​IMG]
