Due to the current weather conditions digging over my plot and manuring it as planned is not possible. I'm starting to think about using compost for the organic matter rather than manure so I can dig this in later when the soil thaws. Has anyone ever used municipal green waste that some local councils offer? I used it on my investigative project site at college but I can't find any info on how to get hold of it!

    Hi Cairns,

If your council is anything like ours, they will advertise a collection at the local recycling centre. Its a mad rush to get the stuff.

I guess you've already looked on the council website, if no details there then give them a bell and ask, these dishing out days don't happen very often around here.

You could dig a runner bean trench when the soil has thawed out & just put your organic waste in that. Trouble is rats & urban pigs tend to get attracted to it.

The plot's in my Grandad's garden so I don't think he would take too kindly to rats! I'll give the council a bell this week, even easier I'll just take some bags to college and shove it in my car! lol
