    Hi All,

I need to move the greenhouse as it is in the middle of the garden and I am frightened the kids will get hurt.

I need to loose a raised bed to put it at the bottom of the garden out of the way.

At the moment it is on a slabbed base, but for me to move the base as well it will take me a whole to do. I am thinking of making a base from sleepers and putting it on there and then have 2 raised beds to plant in, with a path up the middle, this will also give me more height. I can also recycle the slabs for my chicken coop and run.

What are the pros and cons of growing like this?

    Rusty

You don't need to have a base at all and can plant directly into the soil, this would also give you the option of whether or not you use raised beds. The soil would have to be changed from time to time because of lack of nutrients and possible diseases that may occur. Raised beds may give you more height but consider the height you will lose for tall plants like tomatoes.

I wouldn't use railway sleepers, although they are quite a dense wood, it would only be a matter of a few years before they start to rot from the needed watering in the greenhouse and the damp soil. My own greenhouse is on a concrete base. Perhaps you might consider laying the same and then you can move the greenhouse straight on to it.
