My three greenhouse borders are each 9 foot long by 33" wide. I plan to plant my tomatoes two rows deep, with 18" between each plant. Is that about the right spacing as this is the first time I have used borders, and not growbags. Would the same spacing also apply to sweet peppers?

I've also got a couple of Cantaloupe melons. Any tips on how best to support them and how much room to allow.

    Any tips appreciated. Thanks.

It's a bit too close in two rows; will get problems with pests and diseases - as a rule of thumb they do not like to be touching each other and they do spread out a fair bit as they mature. It also makes it difficult to reach the back row for sideshooting, tying up and picking etc as well. What I do in my similar sized greenhouse border is stagger them - one at the back, the next at the front etc, I get about 4 tomato plants plus a couple of peppers along the border. There is a lot of space between them right now, so inbetween I grow salad crops, lettuce, spinach etc until the tomatoes take over.

I haven't grown melons for years so can't help you on that.

I have used Morrisons flower buckets (99p for 8) for some years now. I have one row of 9 buckets each side of an 8 x6 greenhouse with the buckets almost touching each other. I cut the leaves off at the first double joint from the stem and those left then grow bigger. I have had good results at this spacing.

I grow the same as you in the buckets Larkshill , So I will try the leaf cutting aswell ,

Every year I say I am not going to sow so many and still end up with far too many, and I just cannot bring myself to kill a healthy plant :cry:
