    Hi,

We have a typical greenhouse (Elite) sliding door which in summer we often leave partially open for ventilation, using a bolt going through some drilled holes in the top of the door and frame to hold it in position.

While that works ok, its not secure to stop exploring kids etc getting in which we need to protect due the the electrics etc in there.

Any suggestions for fitting some form of lock that can be used when the door is closed or in one of its opened positions, eg one eighth, quarter or third way opened ?

Is there some way you can drill the aluminium door track that would allow a padlock to be fitted.
Or possibly some kind of locking bolt type patio door lock.

Put another bolt on the other side of the door, on the outside. Drill the track as required. Presuming these are your own kids, parental 'guidance' would be desirable! A partially open door would allow a child to worm their way in.

Kids from other gardens, though they would have to jump a fence, easy enough for them.

Parental guidance, these days ?? !! wishful thinking.
Even when some broke the glass in full view of their parents they never offered to pay.

The door is only open 6 to 8 " at most so hopefully too narrow for them to squeeze though ?

Would love to electrify the metal frame and add barbed wire to the fences but get the impression thats not allowed ?

Edit - just spotted this text which suggests the maximum we should allow the door to be set open, which would be enough extra ventilation over its 6ft height ( we have top and bottom vents as well)

Most code states that all railing balusters must be spaced no more than 4" apart to prevent a child from inserting their head.
