    Hi,

I inherited a greenhouse with my house but it has a couple of panes missing. Can anyone tell me where I can get these from or do I have to order specially with a glazing firm? Also any advise on sowing seeds for 1st time or any goods beginners guide books out there? Want lots of colour for the summer but also would like longer term plants??

Most reasonable sized towns will have a glazing supplier/glass merchant that will cut the glass to size for you. As nixonf23 has said Yellow Pages or your Thomsons Local directory will list them.

For colour and cultivation tips you can also try looking through seed catalogs (providing you sit on your wallet :D ) Any specific queries you can also post here. Generally use good seed, sown in seed compost, keep them warm enough to germinate then plenty of light and sufficient moisture for them to grow and let them have at it. If using trays you will need to prick out when they are big enough to handle (usually second set of true leaves) and plant up individually in potting compost until they are big enough to harden off for planting in a border (if they are going outside)

Most seeds do know how to grow themselves, all we do is provide the right conditions for them to thrive.

cazza, Glaziers carry standard sized panes of Dutch lights. If they say they have to cut it to size ask for Pilkinton horticultural grade. ;)

    thanks everyone,

I think I'll have to pop down today as the weather outside is still very chilly here so working inside the greenhouse seems a much better idea.

re the books, CAzza - I was looking through mine, and I think the best one overall about propagating plants, whethre from seed or some other way, is Plant Propagation A-Z (Growing Plants for Free), ISBN 0715318268.
I'm sure you could get it 2nd hand on Amazon used books. Good luck!
