Looks like Tradescantia

 

Dont think its a tradescantia , I will post another pic with flowers on tomorrow and see if this helps.

Me thinks that that is Impatiens omeiana.

Mick, I have grown this plant many years ago and used it in in tropical displays but can't for the life of me remember it's name:( if I keep looking long enough it might come back.

 

Mick it came quickly, Ruellia Portella, sometimes known as the wild Petunia although I don't know why.It spreads over the ground well and good for underplanting in large tropical glasshouse and conservatories.

 

Strongy, Ruellia was my first thought too,but do they come with the white stripe in the middle? Just curious. Also, I could swear I saw this plant last friday in a greenhouse and it had amazingly velvety leaves... Mick is your plant all touchy feely and soft too?

 

Thanks guys been looking to name this for ages. I think its def Ruellia portellae. Found this pic on net http://www.cambridge2000.com/gallery/html/P3145326.html . 100 pc sure now.

Ivory, this variety has velvety reddish/purple leaves and silvery/white veining.

Recall seems to take longer these days.

 

Wow, it is really the same plant I saw!! It had most definitely a Ruellish look, I should have trusted my first istinct, but the white stripe sidetracked me, thanks for the correction! I saw this plant in the same greenhouse where I took all those butterly pics, it was amazing, lots of very interesting plants, like the Goethea I posted in one of the comps, huge bananas ( I had never seen one in full bloom before), and plenty more.
