A friend on our Allotment site saw an ad in his Daily paper for a greenhouse (Mail order) last spring, so he bought it and errected it on his plot.

It seems fairly strong but the "glass part" is actually a roll of film that is applied with the supplied doubled sided tape.

Over the new year period a heavy hail storm completely decimated this film and ripped it to shreds, so this is a warning to others who may be about to buy one ready for Spring that the film covers on these things dont last.

It should be noted it was an extra heavy hail storm that did the damage and the greenhouse had already withstood a few "normal" hail showers.

We'lll probably get some Polytunnel cover to wrap up the frame now.

    Steve...:)

It is so difficult with the poly covered ones as it seems to degrade in the weather very quickly..!!! Don't the manufacturers expect people to have them out in all weathers..?

In one way these cheap ones serve a purpose IMO,first time buyers as a try it to see if I like it type thing and also allotments where vandalism would be a big problem.

That reminds me - I have such a greenhouse in my shed. I bought it for my sister but she gave it back to me (still disassembled!) because her son is building an extension to their home.

I'm not so sure it serves a good purpose, lazydog.:D A lot of novices would probably buy such a Green House as their very first one, particularly as they are cheaper. So when the plastic "windows" deteriorate and fail the novice ends up with the three "D's"........Disheartened, Discouraged, and Disillusioned.:cry3: When a product such as that is put on the market by the manufacturers, who know it will only last a season, despite all the marketing blurb, then it's for only one reason............to make money.:WINK1::D
