    My friend's little greenhouse.

It's a 6' x6' (seems to be the type sold by Focus) and I got the last pane of glass fitted yesterday. The greenhouse is 5 years old and was bought as a dismantled kit of parts (no instructions!) but it's all gone together quite well with no breakages. All the glass and metalwork were washed before assembly and I did buy extra glazing clips and a spare packet of nuts and bolts as some of the bolts had damged threads and some clips were rusty. The slab base is just boring grey and covers 8' x 10' (20 off 2' x 2') but it leaves a nice bit of space at the front and a margin round the sides and rear. Dug out the turf, laid a weed membrane (overkill but it did retain the sand nicely), put down a sand bed, then a dry cement mix for the slabs. The whole project has taken a couple of weeks, evenings and weekends

Still some tidying up to do and need some staging built but so far it's looking nice and at least I have a home for my toms now!

Next job will be to redo the pond once the taddies have left.

Wonderful job there Frogesque. Just wanted to know , did you secure it to something or is the frame just sitting on the paving? Only asking because I have heard of them being blown over in windy conditions.

I've been wondering whether to secure it or not. The garden is reasonably sheltered and the split larch fence/panelling is to get replaced by a 4ft high spaced 4" batten fence running the whole garden length behind it. I deliberately left a 3ft gap for access. For a really exposed site I would use an anchor and poly carb glazing would definitely need some sort of holding down as it's much lighter but the glass in total is quite heavy and the whole thing is surprisingly ridgid.

It would be easy enough to drill through the slabs and use expanding bolts with hooked clamps to anchor it but I'm reluctant to drill holes and I don't think it necessary. A neighbour over the road had a similar greenhouse for years and his just sat on bare earth. The only problem he had in a gale was after one of the door rollers broke and the door got blown off because it was out of its track.

One option would be to do away with the metal support and bolt the greenhouse onto heavy railway sleepers. I had considered doing this but as the greenhouse already had the galvanised bottom section I didn't go that route. Buying new I definitely would as it would be better insulation, slightly higher (sleepers edge on) and probably cheaper. Any gale blowing it over then would be causing much more grief elsewhere :D
