    Hi folks. I guess this is gonna sound silly to most of you, but here goes. What ARE greens ? I mean like, the ones that get sold in supermarkets. Cheers...freddy.

    Ahhh....thanks Dai. Another one to put on the list. Considering they are immature, does this mean they can be planted closer together ? Cheers...freddy.

    Sow the seed straight in the ground in a drill and let them grow, don`t thin out. When they get to a suitable size pull what you need and enjoy.

    You mean use them while they are immature? I don`t see why not. Last year we had someone on here whos cauliflowers all grew " blind ", that is they didn`t produce hearts. and I suggested that he just eat the leaves, he was quite chuffed I think.

    Hi Dai. I was thinking of things like sprout tops and leaves, or broccoli leftovers, anything really. Cheers...freddy.

    Yes, it`s all edible, sprout " cabbage " is just like eating a giant sprout. :D

    It doesn't just have to be from veg that hasn't matured. We eat the inner leaves that are on the cauliflowers (the outer ones are usually too tatty). Even the green turnip tops make a good veggie.

    Great thread didn't even think about eating inside leaves of cauliflower, tell you what I love, the stalks of brocolli just cut off the outside tough bit and eat raw - lovely!

    Hi folks. Just out of interest, what would happen if you took the growing tip out of a spring cabbage at some stage ? Would side shoots be produced or would it just stay blind ? Cheers...freddy.

    I used to grow January King cabbage and various types of savoy.
    We always left the stalk in the ground after cutting, most times you get regrowth that you can use in late spring as greens.

    BTW pete, were those January King Late Stock 3 ? If you haven`t tried them, give them a try. I seem to remember they were bigger and more reliable than the `regular` J/K. Mind you, that was 20 years ago so maybe the memory fails. Cheers...freddy.
