Hi this is my first year with the greenhouse and it was started pretty late - i've got loads of toms on which are a good size - Alicante and tumbling toms - but they are still all green.
When should they be going red as i really want to try one - or am i juust being impatient?
Or is there a way to speed up the ripening process?

By the way they're fed once a week on maxitom from the local allotment.

    Thanks for any advice all.

    Neil

    Hi Neil
I know somebody will cotradict me but, if you have loads of toms on the plant i feed twice a week,
To ripen the toms is everybodies desire, :hehe:warmth is what ripens them, however i put banana skins in my greenhouse to help as they give off a gas ,i dont know if it works or just an old wives tale :old:,but mine are starting to colour :gnthb:

hi pam thanks for that - the banana things prob true actually as everything else near them in the fruit bowl tends to ripen faster too - as for feeding that did cross my mind the other day but i'm nowt sure whether to try it - the bloke at the allotment where i bought the feed said feed em as much as you like when you like but being new to this i'm not all that sure!

    thanks

No rush, they'll ripen. If in a greenhouse in bags or pots you could feed every second watering, if in the ground once a week should be fine. You don't want them all ripening at once and I wouldn't bother using a banana to speed things until much later.

ok dave thanks for that i'll just change the feeding then as they are in pots and see how they get on.
I take it by every second feed you mean feed one day then just water the next?

    thanks for your time

Some people advocate feeding every time you water, with the fertilizer even more diluted of course. I feed twice a week and water every day inbetween.
