    Hello from halfway between Moffat and Lockerbie. We have a modest corner which we call our garden, tucked in among trees, pretty damp and very mossy. My wife does the finessing stuff and I hire the mini-digger.

      Welcome aboard :sign0016: - I would say I am reasonably familiar with your gardening conditions, being Dumfries born and bred myself. Definitely not the easiest soil and weather combination, especially if you have a lot of shade.

              Seeing the sandstone sheet that your house is on, my guess is Johnstonebridge, St Anns or maybe Whamphrey?

              Thanks for the welcome, all. I'm not far from Langholm, Flumpy ... just a wee scoot over the hills. And full marks, FC - I'm in Wamphray, on the banks of the Wamphray Water at the bottom of the Boreland road. Possibly the wettest corner of the wetest corner of Scotland!

                My grandfather worked as a stone mason, working out of Locharbriggs Quarry, and much of his work is all around the area. If you go to the park in Moffat, just opposite the boating lake, there is a memorial which is his handy-work. I worked throughout the area before leaving to come down here, so have a fairly reasonable knowledge of the geography. :)

                  My Auntie and uncle did move to Moffet but then moved back to Langholm where there family is, lovely peaceful place and everyone knows everyone :dbgrtmb:
