    Good morning everyone.

I am happy to be here, get some useful tipps and share my (not so vast) knowledge about gardening.

Basically I bought my first own home and garden about a year ago and so far I have flipped it completely. Now, in the second stage I am trying to iron out all the mistakes I made as a rookie and to actually make it look presentable.

So that's it, hoping to hear from you all and have a nice time gardening :dbgrtmb:

      Herzlich willkommen Black Dog

I have visited North Germany many times, Oldenburg to be exact, as my sister lived there for 47 years. She had a beautiful home and garden.

There is knowledge of all aspects here to help with your needs.

      Just ask away.

Well thanks Victoria. That's around the area where I live.

I will be sure to ask if anything comes to mind. Until then I'll try to settle in and find my way around here.

Seems like gardening is valued a LOT higher in UK than it is in Germany. Sadly

Hello @Black Dog , Nice to hear from you. I have a nephew living in north Germany but never been there myself.

You are lucky to have made mistakes, you will learn a lot from them. I have made many and still keep making them !
You will get a lot of help from this forum - there are some very knowledgeable members here, and friendly too

Good luck with your garden, and I hope you keep us informed of your progress ...

Sure plan on doing that. Always wanted to make a nice picture show to document the transformation of a garden from the start

Same here in Portugal! They don't understand why I grow flowers ... things you can't eat! :dunno: When we first came here Garden Centers were almost unheard of ... now we have some that would give English ones a run for their money.

Well to be fair, I too tend to plant plants I can eat. Doesn't mean a cherry tree or some Aronia bushes aren't nice to look at.
Besides that I try to fill my garden with perennials in oder to Feed the bees and watch them grow larger every year. Gives me some joy to see my garden transform from a barren wasteland into a blooming paradise within a month

Ideally you should see a sunflower I grew last year... IMG-20200816-WA0003.jpeg

I have visited northern Germany many times for my job over the past 30 years. Mainly Hanover and Bielefeld. I still miss the beer and sausages :blue thumb:

Well thank you. And yes, that is a 2 meter (6 feet for the Americans) fence. In just a few weeks it grew higher than my trees and I had to use a hacksaw to cut its wrist sized stem at the end of last year.

Thank you all. To be honest, I got more replies in half a day than I've gotten in a whole week in the german gardening forums (including two rather rude messages from the moderator because I dared saying "the best way te get rid of rabbits is an air rifle and a large cooking pot")
