Grow bags

    Hi, I'm going to buy my grow bags for my tomatoes in the next week or so, but I'm not sure which make to buy? The last two years Ive had B&Q's own make, What do you use?

    Have you thought of just buying a bigger bag of compost and making a few holes in the bottom and just cut out the top to make spaces for the toms , I find the grow bags are too small and dry out so quickly and run out of food !!!

      I agree with Spruce. :dbgrtmb:

      I buy Wickes compost at 4 x 70 litre bags for £14.36. Not much difference in price from buying Gro-bags and much more compost.

      Some people cut the compost bags in half and stand the two halves up like pots and use them that way - a bit fiddly but it gives you deeper space for roots.

      I use them flat, just like Gro-bags and there's plenty of room for three plants.

        Now that is a good idea , especially cutting a MPC bag in half . As you say a 70 litre bag of MPC is probably better on all counts over a grow-bag :dbgrtmb:

          I have used them standing up and have grown Spuds in them as well , worked a treat.

            Thanks for the replies, I'm going to give it a go using the compost bags, they are 3 for a tenner in our local Marlows store :dbgrtmb:, I shall get those on Monday. :)
