I've just bought 50g of Button Mushroom spores for a couple of bob on eBay (kind of a spore of the moment thing:heehee:) and I was wondering if anyone else on here has ever grown their own mushrooms? and also what do I do with them? (the spores:WINK1:) I was thinking of buying some straw from the pet shop and then sterilising it with boiling water to use as a substrate, would that be okay?

    Many Thanks:D

You need fresh horse poo, the heat from that will be ideal. Need to keep it somewhere warm and humid.

When the mycelium is all over the poo, about 3 weeks, case it with about 3-4 inches of peat with lime in it. Keep it spray misted, but dont soak the casing.

You can grow them on rye grains. You sterilise the rye in mason jars, in a pressure cooker for around 30min. Add the spores to a water solution and inject this into the rye. Leave in a humid place. Those plastic greenhouses, indoors work well..
