I don't want to use them this year because they dry out too quickly. Can anyone give me and alternative loam based recipe?

Currently mixing a 3-1 loam/compost mix with a good handful of growmore thrown in, suppose it's a bit early in the season to gauge it's effectiveness?

Vince, I tend to dabble a bit in mixing things up as well.
The 3:1 loam peat based compost sounds OK to me, (I'm not very scientific about it), but I wouldn't use growmore, its too fast acting.
Fish, blood and bone might be better. [IMG]

The thing about Growmore, Vince, is that it`s only active for 7 to 10 days. Whereas F,B & B is active for 4 to 6 weeks.

Not sure if this helps but i saw an article on GC about cutting growbags in half and standing them on there ends, Acts as a pot and im not sure if this solves the problem of them drying out.
Im not taking the credit for that in anyway but when i read that article i thought Pure Genius!

VP it does sort of work but growbags still dry out pretty quickly. It's more to do with the quality of the compost than the surface area. I know. I'm cheap and tried it a couple of years ago. :D

There was a pic, I think it was in Compostee's polytunnel last year. I tried it and it worked although I used 80 litre bags which didn't dry out so quickly. [IMG]
