Can anyone shed some light on the viability of growing beans particularly runner or climbing french outside the normal crop rotation using the same bed year on year? I seem to remember from somewhere it is OK as there is no noticeable build up of pests or disease problems and the soil fertility is built up over the years. Anybody tried it and if so how successful was it? Many thanks

they guy that had my allotment before me used to grow his runners in the same space every year

he used to dig a trench in the autumn and then load in lots of manure and newspaper and leave over winter

    it worked for him

Worked for me over the last three years. Against my southe facing garage wall.
Leave the roots behind once the crop has finished.
Trench in Autumn as suggested and fill with whatever you have.
    Sorted

There's no reason why not Spotlandman. Some people erect permanent been frames for them.
Do as the others have said and make a bean trench every winter for them. The beans will get on fine.

Its worked for me for the last 39 years :dbgrtmb:. I grow about 150-200 plants each year and sell the produce for charity. Crops heavily, great flavour, no problems or diseases.

Yes it's no problem to keep growing beans in the same position year after year. :dbgrtmb:

I like to have mine in the normal rotation to fix some Nitrogen for the Brassicas that follow (although the benefit may not be as great as is perceived)

But many people have permanent beds, and permanent frames ...
