    We decided to run growing competitions through September to Novemember.

    These are the categories of September -

    I ââ?¬â?? OVER GROUND. Closing date last day of September.
     Squash ââ?¬â?? Single squash by weight
     Tomato ââ?¬â?? Single tomato by weight
     Cucumber ââ?¬â?? Single by straight line length
     Sunflower a ââ?¬â?? By diameter of flower head measured across seed area (no petals)
     Sunflower b ââ?¬â?? By height measured from soil surface to maximum height of stem
     Bean ââ?¬â?? By straight line length (open to any kind of bean)

    To get the ball rolling here's my entry for a sunflower head at 36 cm.
    Got a biggish cuc too but can't find the photo at present.

    I may be in the wrong section here Dave, if I am I'm sorry.
    The growing comp doesn't seem to have taken off that well, maybe it was the rotten summer.
    But I grew some onions and I'm going to show them.
    So here they are. :D :D

    Cor Pete, am I jealous!!!
    I used to grow good onions but can't any more due to White Rot present in the garden. [​IMG] We really miss them - used to love tying them up in strings under the eaves of the shed.
    Lousy year for most veg, though brassicas have done very well and we picked the first of our early brussel sprouts yesterday.
    Only other entry for the comp has been Kedi-Gato with her 15" runner bean. WELL DONE K-D!! Looks like you've won! [​IMG]

    In view of the underwhelming interest in the comp I'll not bother running the the October one.

    Oooh, those are big`ns pete!I thought mine were alright at just under the 1b. but yours are huge.

    I've not tried the big onions for a few years now but I do think they are one of the more satisfying large veg to grow.
    They always respond to heavy feeding, unlike some of the other types that are really dependant on the weather, too hot, too wet, too dry. [​IMG]
