Hi I dont have much money at the minute so cant really buy from my garden center but I am wanting an edge putting along side my fence in the garden. Is it possible to grow edging plants from cuttings? I was thinking about maybe privett or maybe even pyracantha. I have rooting powder and was just wondering if it was possible.

    Any help regards Keith

Have no experience myself, but have a look here for how to take privet cuttings :)

It does say you can grow them on outside.

I have nearly 1,000 Box plants taken from cuttings "relieved" from some parent plants near here ...

A greenhouse would help if you want a decent quantity ... and with Box Blight then Box may not be the best choice.

Cuttings is a slow process. Year 1 take the cutting, Year 2 grow it on. Probably in Year 3 it will be the sort of size you see in a nursery, so you will probably be 3 years behind compare to just buying some plants.

Might be worth looking on the Internet for cell-grown plants. They work out about 50p - £1.00 each, and have one year behind them, so only 2 years to planting out - and you don't have to worry about the potentially high rates of losses with doing cuttings.
