hi just looking for some advice. I’m not much of a gardener( I don’t have one) i live in a flat in a town centre. I am looking to grow herbs the only available space i have is the window ledge on my Juliet balcony(outside). I’m just looking in to growing herbs and plants( like chillies tomatoes or anything i can use in cooking).

I’ve been looking at buying beginner packs like these:

Taylor's Zinc Windowsill Herb Kit - Silver from Amazon

I just wanted to know if these will be ok outside, if it's the wrong time of year to start this, will plants grow ok on a window ledge and any other advice that you might want to send my way.

Welcome to GC Jimi. :) There's no reason why you shouldn't grow them, perhaps in a narrow trough or two, or small pots. Obviously you will have to keep an eye on watering and feeding, you may also have to divide the plants every couple of years so that they don't become pot bound.

This is the time of year seasoned gardeners prowl the shelves in outlets for end of season bargains, I myself bought a windowsill self watering herb pot in Wilkos a few weeks back for £1, have a look around you may find some bargains, it will be hard this time of year as most herbs even perennials are dying back, try the supermarket pots, chives sage thyme and of course parsley, basil is far too tender for cool weather.

If you can put up some hanging basket's you can grow tumbling tom tomatoes, I do this every year. You can also grow strawberries in a hanging basket. Cut and grow lettuce, chives, etc did well on the balcony at my old flat

If placed outside, pots standing in a tray will be sitting in water everytime it rains. That 'kit' is designed to be used indoors on a window cill. I suggest starting with a few small plants rather than seeds.
